Welcome!

Hello to all, however you have stumbled across this blog!

My name is Sara and I've just started a PhD at the University of Stirling. The aim of the PhD is to scope the future of prostate cancer services in Scotland. The research is needed as there has been no research into the planning of/future need for prostate disease care services in Scotland for ten years, despite recent projections of significant increases in the likely number of men with prostate cancer. I will be working with men and with Urology clinicians and GPs in different parts of Scotland to formulate a picture of the future needs of patients and it is anticipated that the research will also form a key reference point on future developments and treatments in prostate cancer. The project is a partnership between Prostate Scotland and the Cancer Care Research Centre at University of Stirling.

My hopes for this blog are that it will be a place for me to keep folks that are interested abreast of developments in my research, and to link to interesting readings. Perhaps it will also encourage some discussion around the issues!

The blog will also hopefully give me an opportunity to reflect on the PhD and research experience as I embark on the long and winding road towards becoming an academic :) There may well be tears and tribulations to come!
